I bought the '54 in '97 and drove it everywhere. It used to belong to a plumber in Antioch, who bought it new. I fixed it up and drove it for several years as a dependable and capable service and rat rod truck.
It's been steam cleaned several times. The front springs were replaced with mono-leafs, which dropped it down a bit. I re-arranged the rear spring height to drop the back as well. I replaced the brakes and slave cylinders, the rims and tires, the radiator, starter, solenoid and rewired it with the Painless system. I replaced the old hood with one from "Mun" and added a front hood tilt system. I bobbed off the front bumper horns and filled the lower valence and added a louvered tailgate cover. The taillights were also replaced, as well other little things throughout. I painted it flat black and white with red rims and full moons and pinstriped by Herb Martinez. The interior was insulated. The seat was redone in red tuck 'n roll by Armand's in Walnut Creek, as were the door panels. After driving it for several years I wanted to make it into a custom, with a new motor and trans, a chopped top, etc. but lost interest in favor of two other projects, one of which made the pages of Street Rodder magazine May 2007 pg 158, Black Widow 2. I will sell absolutely everything, including a roll around motor cart for $11,500. The truck is licensed and insured. Act now and get a fun, useful truck and a good deal. Attached photos are from then I initially finished the rat rod paint and pin striping. It has weathered since the photos were taken. Come see it and drive it.
