Just a few days left and I leave for Pomona. This project happened quickly from last April when I met Kiro, and now it is done. Is there anything left to do? No. All the items on the build sheet are complete. The display is also complete, although I did not take photos of that item ... you will see it when I post show photos at the end of the month.
01/08 & 01/10: In these final days I have secured the services of "The Detail Guy" Kelley Hunter (925) 525-9056. Kelley's been at this for over 20 years. During that time he has detailed several of the AMBR (America's Most Beautiful Roadster) winners. And no, although it is stunning, Black Widow 2 is not at the level necessary to compete for the AMBR award. My category is "hot rod truck."
Kelley goes to all the indor shows, providing touch-up services to select customers ... I am one of those lucky customers. At the start of every show day in Pomona, Sacramento, Portland and in Seattle, Kelley will attend to Black Widow 2 during the trailer-queen show tour. Kelley will also be secured to detail BW2 from time to time as I enjoy this truck as a driver through the years.
01/11: I called Sharon Morris, the show promoter's organizer to confirm stuff and got a thrill. I am on the list to be in building #4. Out of five buildings this year. Bldg #4 is the best. It is where the AMBR trophy is on display and where all the AMBR contendersa million dollars eachare displayed. Bldg #4 is absolutely the best building to be in when in this show. WOW ... this is getting better and better. Here is a photo of Bldg #4 when empty.
01/12 I finally finished the wire mesh in the stacks and the side plates for the motor. Now there everyone will know what this truck is all about.
01/14 My friend Al Meadows, sign painter (925) 784-5773, finished my hand painted show sign. This alone, is worth the trip. Nice sign! Al and Moon worked together for years and years doing this kind of work. Al went away from show signs a few years ago, but is making his come-back ... in a big way. Now that he is back, he's as busy as ever. Hint: The key to booking Al is to call him in-between shows. Don't be stupit ... never wait till the last minute to contract an artist.
