In 1960, Monogram, the maker of plastic model kits, manufactured a 1/24th scale kit titled the Black Widow. The car is a 1927 Ford roadster pickup ... hot rod style. In 1960 I was twelve years old. I built that kit and have always dreamed of having a roadster pickup like the model. I am now 57 years old in 2005 and that long-held dream came true -- yet there is more to the dream and that, too, came true.
In the mid 60's, my brother Sonny, built a show car and entered it in the Oakland Roadster Show (Grand National Roadster Show). Sonny's car won 3rd place in his category. After the show, while Sonny was serving in the US Navy during the Vietnam war, I got to drive that show car to high school. Can you possibly understand how cool that was for a high school kid to be going to school in a custom show car that won a trophy in the Grand National Roadster Show?
Therefore, my dream is not only to build a roadster pickup hot rod in the style of the Monogram model, the Black Widow, but to also show it at the Grand National Roadster Show ... and that dream became a reality in 2005/2006
These pages tell the story of a dream come true,
the story of ... Black Widow 2
...a full-scale model car
