HOT ROD Week (Monterey Bay Area) ... Aug 23/06

The flyer reads: "Put on your leather cap and goggles and get your road tour fix as we’ll again head south from Pleasanton to the spectacular coastal region of the Monterey Bay. Stops include a visit to Seaside to visit Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson’s hot rod collection then on to Don Orosco’s place for more jaw dropping collectibles! Last stop is automotive design guru Bruce Canepa’s “Canepa Design” skunkworks."

Once again we hit the road at 8 am. This time we're headed South to Seaside for our first stop. Oh thrills ... commute traffic until we get off 101 past San Jose and head West. That's when I noted something that I missed by being at the end of the pack for the last two days. I was more toward the head of the pack, today, and there they were ... the '32 Ford roadster boys! Let me tell ya, those roadster boys sure know how to scoot. We were truck'en at 65 - 70 mph, but when the traffic thinned, the roadster boys lit out! WOW ... I cranked up to 90 for a spirt then backed off, but them roadster boys kept pull'en away ... fast away. I'd guess over 100 mph and they were ... GONE! Oh yeah, those roadster boys sure know how to scoot. One day, I gots to get me one of those '32 rockets!

Taking a more sane speed, we ended up at Reggie's place in Seaside where we gandered at muscle cars and lots of motors. We then head more West for lunch at Tarpy's Road House on HWY 68 ... damn good meatlof! At 1 pm we're once again ooooing and wowing at Don's place. But the real ooooing and wowing happened at Don's place. You might say that Don likes race cars.

It was a long day but a nice day. Seems everyone liked the beach area and hi-dollar do'ins which showed in the smiles and in the fact that there were a lot of wifes on this leg of the tour. For myself, I gained the confidence in Black Widow 2 as a semi-confortable freeway flyer to consider driving to Pomona next year for the GNRS ... if there's no rain. I'm crazy, not stupid.
