Goodguys 20th West Coast Nationals ... Aug 27/06

And now it is Sunday, the final day of the 2006 West Coast Nationals ... and I am going to get two awards. Wow ... I can hardly wait. I arrive at 9:30 am and head straight for the winners circle to park with the big dogs. And let me tell you, the big dogs were there and they were all fantastic. But hey, "Snap out of it, dude..." I said to myself. "Black Widow 2 is also fantastic. We're a big dog, too."

My friend Ken shows up, once again ... he has to be a part of this day, too. So all day long we hang out, talk with folks and have a wonderful day. I signed magazine copies, met great new friends and saw plenty of old friends, too.

Later in the day we walked over to the model car contest and picked up all my models ... no awards this time but that's okay. We walked back to the truck and packed everything into the bed. Then, at the designated time, all the cars in the winners circle played follow the leader to stage over at the awards presentation. And then it was my turn.

I'd seen this awards presentation many times before. The car drives between the crowd and the stage, the Goodguys announcer introduces the owner, talks about the car, the trophy girls hands the award to the driver, photos are taken and the car drives off. And now it was my turn. It happened so fast. I really tried to get a handle on the moment and then I drove off. It was a ... wow!

After picking up a framed awards photos produced by the show photographer and talking with friends, Ken and I thanked each other and went our separate ways. Tomorrow I go back to work ... back to reality. This past week now just a magical dream ... did it all really happen?
